Mixed Signals - Are Women Confusing Men? By Alicia R Norman | 06-11-2007 http://www.drdating.com

Before a famous comedian ever uttered the famous words, I had often said that if chivalry is dead, women killed it. To be sure, there are numerous things that men do on the dating field that is worthy of a finger shake, if not a slap on the wrist, but this does not make the statement any more or less true.

Below is a list of the top five things modern women do to send men mixed signals?

1) We want to be valued for who we are, and yet we place a man's value in his wallet, not his viability as a mate. If we don't want men to place an emphasis on shallow things like our weight or breasts size, we need to stop placing emphasis on shallow things like money.

2) We want to be respected and yet we come out of the house looking like we walked out of a rap video. As Dave Chapelle once said, you may not be a prostitute, but you are dressed in the prostitute's uniform. Dressing in a feminine, yet attractive way that hints at your sexuality, will garner more respect-and return phone calls.

3) We expect to be treated like Princesses while at the same time exclaiming we want to be equals. Can't have it both ways. If we are true equals, then we should be reaching for our wallets when the dinner check arrives too.

4) We lament that men are no longer romantic, when kind gestures by men are sneered at. Why get upset if a man opens a door for you? It is a courtesy, not his expression of your inferiority-I hold doors open for guys all the time. Why? Because it would be extremely rude of me to let the door hit anyone, male or female in the face.

5) Don't hem and haw about how you feel if you are not interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with a man. Fear of losing the friendship or hurting his feelings shouldn't hinder you from telling the truth. If you have built a strong friendship, the truth won't hurt it, and it'll be far worse in the end if you string him along. A blunt no is better than a half-hearted maybe.

Far too often, we get so caught up in what we wish to receive from a relationship, that we fail to recognize the valid needs and wants of others. Single ladies, if you want to hook the hottie of your dreams, broaden your horizons. Give the nice guys, even the ones who aren't doctors or lawyers, a shot. If you are truly a modern, independent woman, you don't need a man to take care of you, right?
